Palm Springs, CA (October 8, 2024) — Today Palm Springs International Piano Competition (PSIPC), formerly The Waring, announced its full slate of esteemed judges for the triennial Competition, dates and times for all in-person rounds, as well as an additional prize and a unique public masterclass opportunity for the Junior Competitors. Submissions are currently open and will close on November 15. The first three in-person Rounds as well as the public masterclass will be held at Temple Isaiah from April 13-19, 2025. The Final Round will take place at the McCallum Theater on April 21, 2025. The Four Finalists who advance to the Final Round will each play a pre-selected concerto with the PSIPC Festival Orchestra under the direction of conductor, Peter Wilson. JURY

From April 11-21, 2025, twenty-five young pianists, selected from an on-line Preliminary Selection Round, will come to Palm Springs to compete for more than $30,000 in prizes. The in-person rounds will be adjudicated by some of today’s leaders in the industry. The esteemed panel, chaired by Anton Nel (Professor of Piano and Chamber Music Division Head, Keyboard Studies, University of Texas Austin), is: Bonnie Barrett (Director, Yamaha Artist Services New York), Bernadene Blaha (Professor of Practice, University of Southern California), Kevin Kwan Loucks (Chief Executive Officer, Chamber Music America), and Lisa Nakamichi (Founding Artistic Director, Aloha International Piano Festival).

ROUNDS

PSIPC 2025 (Junior Division) takes place over five rounds. The Preliminary Selection Round is via on-line submissions only from August 15-November 15, 2024 and is open to all pianists of any nationality who have reached the age of 13 by April 11, 2025 and who have not exceeded the age of 17 by the conclusion of the competition on April 21, 2025. The panel of Preliminary Screening Round judges is Scott Cuellar (Assistant Professor of Applied Music and Performance (piano) in the Setnor School of Music, Syracuse University), Esther Park (Associate Professor of Music, Schwob School of Music, Columbus State University), and

Terrence Wilson (Piano Faculty, Bard College Conservatory of Music).

The first three in-person rounds take place from April 13-18, 2025 at Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs, CA (check schedule for specific times). Solo Round 1 from April 13 through April 15 will feature all 25 competitors who were chosen from the online Preliminary Screening Round. Solo Round 2, on April 16 and 17, will feature the 13 competitors who advanced from Solo Round 1. The Semi-Final Round on April 18 features the seven competitors who advanced from Solo Round 2. The announcement of competitors who advance to the subsequent Rounds will be made following the final performance on the last day of each Round.

The Final Round takes place on April 21, 2025 at 6pm at the McCallum Theater, in Palm Desert, CA. The four Competitors who advanced to the Final Round will perform a full- length, pre-selected concerto with the PSIPC Festival Orchestra under the direction of

conductor, Peter Wilson. PRIZES

Four cash prizes will be awarded: Gold Medal winner will receive $10,000; Silver Medal

$5,000; Bronze Medal $2,500; and Medal of Honor $1,000. The Gold Medal winner will also receive a recording with Yamaha Artist Services New York and important recital and concerto performances during the 2025-2027 seasons. All Semi-finalists, who do not progress to the Finals, will receive $500.

The cash awards for the four Medalists for the 2025 PSIPC (Junior Division) are made possible through the generosity of the Peggy and Don Cravens Education Funds for student awards, scholarships, and education activities.

NEW AWARD & PUBLIC MASTERCLASS

New for PSIPC 2025 (Junior Division) will be The Whittier Trust Confidence Foundation Audience Award given to a finalist chosen by the audience on the last night of the Competition. The winner receives $1,000.

All competitors who do not proceed to the final round will be given the opportunity to perform in a public masterclass with members of the esteemed panel of judges on April 19, 2024 at Temple Isaiah.

Four competitors who have advanced to the Finals of the Palm Springs International Piano Competition (Junior Division) will choose a concerto from a pre-determined list of works by Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn or Schumann. More than $30,000 will be awarded across all four finalists. The Gold Medal winner will receive $10,000, a recording with Yamaha Artist Services New York, and important recital and concerto performances during the 2025-2027 seasons.
