Now 30 years old, Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki has grown up quite a bit since his Junior Division win at the age of 12. He’s a worldwide piano sensation, with recent and upcoming engagements in San Francisco, Milan, Paris, and Boston, along with a significant residency and tour with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields performing Beethoven concertos across Germany and Austria.
His 11th album, Preludes, released on Deutsche Grammophon in March of 2025, was praised by The Classic Review’s Azusa Ueno for its “stellar execution” of preludes by Rachmaninoff, Górecki, Bach, Chopin, Messiaen. Ueno singles out Lisiecki’s “impressive knack for intricacy and clarity,” claiming that Preludes elevates the soloist’s “artistry to new heights.
On top of his busy recording and performing schedule, he’s also serving as an artist-in-residence at the Kölner Philharmonie and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
We at the Palm Springs International Piano Competition are so proud of the great young sensation, Jan Lisiecki!
